Heifer Project
This project was originally started in one of my senior classes. I wanted to promote the need for helping individuals overseas. For this project I raised $570 and with that money was able to send a heifer, a flock of chickens and ducks, as well as a bee hive. I worked with the Heifer International organization to make this project possible. I also went around the Brookings community promoting my cause to raise the funds necessary This project promotes awareness of people in need in 3rd world countries. My hope is to show people that you don’t have to be right there to help you can help from miles away.This piroject helps showcase who I am as a person. I want to help people even if I don’t know them. I’ve done multiple projects revolving around sending food to people in need and raising money for a mission trip. The Heifer Project helped me to grow my communication skills, leadership skills, and organizational skills while helping me give back. I feel this projects highlights my passion to help others and is something I look forward to continuing in the future.
Ceres Relay For Life
Relay For life has always had a huge impact on my life. In the year 2015 my grandfather lost his battle to cancer. I have also watched my mother and sister battle cancer along with facing my own battle of melanoma.My past is a big factor when it comes to my involvement within Relay and the passion I have for it. Through chapter events we were able to raise awareness in the Brooking community about the effects cancer has on the lives of many individuals. This offered me an opportunity to share my story and raise awareness about the effects of cancer. For the past three years I have participated in Relay fundraising events to raise awareness like our annual date auction. I have been involved in our philanthropy committee to help with this amazing event. Our chapter shows significant leadership and involvement when it comes to Relay for life. I learned how to use passions that I have in my life to help raise awareness about something that effects so many. I was able to share my story, which inspired others. I also learned about the power behind a driven group with a common goal. Ceres and Relay has helped me to push for a brighter future for those effected by cancer.
