Teaching Jitterbug
Ever since I was a freshman I have been helping to put on dance classes in the wellness center. During these classes we teach SDSU students how to jitterbug and line dancing. Throughout the year we also help teach at events like state-a-thon, UPC dances, and miscellaneous events. In order to successfully teach this type of dancing I need volunteers who know how to dance and that can help to teach it as well. It is my job to find volunteers and to ensure they know how to dance even if that means teaching them privately. Sometimes as a leader we need to take time out of our schedule to help others. We also need to ensure that every one of your volunteers knows what’s going on. This is especially important with jitterbug because if someone does a move incorrectly injuries can happen. I have learned how to communicate with others how to preform dance moves along with how to show them. Through I have also learned how to better dance myself by understanding the moves inside and out. I am able to use my own experiences to help others learn. Jitterbug is something that has helped me to develop my communication and leadership skills throughout my time of being an instructor. I will continue to teach dancing beyond college and look forward to the many new things that I will learn from it.
